The direct marketing
industry is at a
crucial stage in

Protection Act being
quoted on all
matters relating to
the marketing
regulations. Email
is the latest to
join the long list
of Suppression
services.
It is an offence to
send an unsolicited
email to an
individual at their
home or business
email address if it
relates to a
personal marketing
message. Business
email to a business
email address is
still accepted ~ for
how long that is the
question!
It is important that
Direct marketers
respond to consumer
requests for choice
in how much e-mail
they receive.
Using EPS is simply
good business sense
however it will not
prevent email from
getting through as
not every business
uses the service.
Additionally some
companies, like
Intermedia, carry
their own
suppression file for
email marketing as a
result of campaigns
carried out for our
clients ~ we now use
this for all
marketing campaigns
as its about
responses rates not
complaint rates!
Marketers aim to
build long term
relationships with
customers so they do
not want to irritate
consumers who might
be receptive to
hearing from them in
other media or who
might buy from them
directly without
being solicited.
